Vista Autism Services is proud to contribute to Pennsylvania’s progress in creating employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. As highlighted in the recent Pennsylvania Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) 2022-2023 Employment First Report , the state is making significant strides toward improving competitive employment rates, particularly for individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism. At Vista, we are honored to be part of this effort, helping to make inclusion and independence achievable for many.
The Employment First Act has set the tone for inclusion in the workforce, emphasizing the dignity and self-sufficiency that comes with meaningful employment. The state’s collaborative efforts have laid the foundation for increasing employment rates, and Vista’s role in the counties we serve is a testament to that collective success. With the progress seen statewide—18% of individuals with disabilities securing competitive integrated employment—Vista is proud to support local initiatives that contribute to these outcomes.
For individuals enrolled in our employment services for a sustained period, Vista has achieved a 94% employment rate, largely in part-time roles. This success reflects our team’s dedication to providing tailored support that meets the unique needs of both our clients and employers. Vista’s commitment doesn’t end with job placement. We work closely with local businesses to ensure that each match meets the needs of both parties, creating a sustainable employment model that supports long-term success. Additionally, 15% of our employment clients are former Vista students, demonstrating the long-lasting impact of our support.
Our approach at Vista mirrors the state’s vision of inclusion and success. MaryLou Winters, along with her team, leads with a mission of personalized support. By assessing both the skills and interests of those we support and the needs of businesses, our dual approach ensures the best outcomes for everyone. As MaryLou always says, “Teamwork makes the dream work.” It’s this spirit of collaboration—among our staff, clients, and the community—that drives our achievements.
While Pennsylvania continues to overcome challenges in employment inclusion, Vista remains committed to the same values emphasized by the Employment First initiative. By fostering opportunities and collaboration, we continue to show that individuals with autism can thrive in the workforce, living lives filled with purpose and independence. Together, we are making the vision of a more inclusive workforce a reality.
