Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is often recognized as a natural science as reliable as gravity, yet there is an art to it that is equally crucial. At Vista Adult Services Organization (VASO), the belief in the “art of ABA” lies in effective consultation. This spring, VASO took a significant step forward in honing this art through a comprehensive three-part “Behavior Consultation” series.
Led by the esteemed G. David Smith, PhD, BCBA-D, the series was designed to enhance the consultation skills of VASO’s dedicated team of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), Behavior Consultants (BCs), and Behavior Consultant Assistants (BCAs). The training emphasized that the cornerstone of any effective behavior change program is robust team collaboration.
“The art of ABA is not just in the techniques we use, but in how we work together as a team to implement these techniques,” said Dr. Smith. “Collaboration is key to achieving meaningful and lasting behavior change.”
The series equipped participants with advanced, evidence-based consultation strategies. These strategies are crucial for developing individualized behavior change programs that help clients reach their full potential. By fostering a collaborative environment, the VASO team can create stronger, more effective programs tailored to each client’s unique needs.
Participants found the series to be both informative and transformative. “The skills and insights gained from this series are invaluable,” said Keirsten Blumenstein Haring, MA, BCBA, LBS, Supervisor of Adult Behavior Support Services. “We now have a stronger foundation to build upon, and we’re excited to see the positive impact on our clients.”
VASO’s investment in this training underscores its commitment to professional and clinical development. By providing clinicians with the most current technologies and evidence-based practices, VASO ensures that its team remains at the forefront of the field, capable of delivering the highest-quality services to clients.
“Continuous learning and development are essential to our mission,” said Angie Rhodes, Adult Behavior Support Services Manager. “We are dedicated to equipping our team with the best tools and knowledge to support our clients’ growth and success.”
As VASO continues to prioritize both the science and art of ABA, the organization remains committed to its mission of improving the lives of individuals with autism through innovative and collaborative approaches.
