Vista Autism Services’ Annual Commitment to Ethical Photo Use
At Vista Autism Services, every story we share is more than just a moment captured—it’s a testament to the growth, achievements, and unique potential of the individuals we serve. Sharing photos and videos of clients, staff, and community members allows us to celebrate milestones, highlight the impact of our programs, and connect with families, donors, and the wider community.
But with that privilege comes an important responsibility. As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency, privacy, and respect, we’ve established clear guidelines for how images are used across our organization. That’s why each February—Vista’s anniversary month—we reaffirm our commitment to ethical storytelling and remind our community how we responsibly use photos and videos in our communications.
Why Ethical Photo Use Matters
Photos are powerful tools that can humanize stories, raise awareness, and inspire action. For Vista, sharing these stories is vital for: ✅ Celebrating client and staff achievements ✅ Engaging families and supporters ✅ Promoting community awareness of autism services ✅ Supporting our fundraising efforts as a nonprofit
Fundraising and donor engagement are essential to sustaining Vista’s programs. By sharing stories of success, we can showcase the real-world impact of our work and inspire the generosity that helps us grow. However, our commitment to dignity and privacy is always at the forefront of these efforts.
How We Protect Privacy and Maintain Integrity
Vista’s photo use policy ensures that every image or video we share is posted with express informed consent from the individuals featured or their legally authorized representatives. While all of our staff share the responsibility of protecting client privacy, our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) are held to a specific Code of Ethics as part of their certification. By aligning our organizational standards with that Code, we ensure that BCBAs, all staff, and families can trust that images are used thoughtfully and respectfully.
Key elements of our photo use policy include: ✔ Informed Consent: All individuals or their guardians are fully informed about how images may be used. ✔ Consent Options: Clients and employees can specify where their images may appear, while external individuals consent to all uses. ✔ Right to Withdraw: Anyone who provides consent can withdraw it at any time. ✔ Privacy Protections: Names are not included in publicly shared images unless specifically authorized. ✔ Secure File Storage & Metadata: All images are securely stored, and metadata is updated to include copyright and privacy information.

Why We Dedicate February to This Commitment
Social media platforms and other digital spaces don’t always make it easy to display consent information on every post. Rather than crowding each story with disclaimers, we’ve chosen to use February—our anniversary month—as an opportunity to reflect on our practices and educate our community about how we protect privacy and uphold our values: 🌟 Excellence – Holding ourselves to the highest standards. 🤝 Dependability – Ensuring we are reliable stewards of the stories we share. 🔄 Consistency – Applying ethical standards to every image, every time. 👥 Teamwork – Working together with clients, families, and staff. 🧡 Dignity – Treating every individual with respect and care.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate another year of progress, we remain committed to sharing stories that uplift, educate, and inspire—while ensuring the privacy and dignity of everyone involved. Your trust means everything to us, and we’re proud to continue this journey with integrity at the heart of everything we do.
Thank you for supporting Vista Autism Services and being part of a community that values ethical storytelling, transparency, and respect.
