A Day on the Course, A Future in Focus: Vista’s 2025 Golf Classic Raises Over $65,000
Rain couldn’t stop the generosity—or the impact—of Vista Autism Services’ 18th Annual Golf Classic, held at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course. With 127 golfers, committed sponsors, and a dedicated team of volunteers, the event raised more than $65,000 in support of Vista’s programs for individuals with autism and their families.
One of the most memorable moments came during the awards banquet, where Vista parent Mary Beth Gatchell shared her family’s story. Mary Beth and her husband Shaun attended with their two sons, both longtime students at The Vista School. Her remarks captured the heart of the event:
“From the time they get up in the morning until the time they go to bed, their daily routines have been shaped by the work of The Vista School and their staff,” she said. “Vista’s strength is seeing each of our boys as individuals, building on the skills they have and finding ways to bridge them to future success.”
Mary Beth spoke about the individualized care each of her sons receives. Her older son, who is non-verbal, has made remarkable progress in learning new methods of communication, and her younger son, whose persistent nature and adventurous spirit are being supported through community-based instruction and safety skill-building. She thanked the crowd, noting, “You spent the day golfing, but your contributions go far beyond this golf course.”
In addition to the traditional round of golf, players were treated to some unique on-course games, including a standout favorite—an inflatable axe-throwing challenge sponsored by Stumpy’s Hatchet House – Hershey, PA. Despite the drizzle, golfers lined up at Hole #10 to throw soft Velcro axes at the inflatable target, raising over $250 in additional funds. Stumpy’s team brought energy and fun, making the game one of the most talked-about attractions of the day.
Golfers and supporters also participated in raffles, a silent auction, and a live auction—including the popular autographed Saquon Barkley Philadelphia Eagles jersey, valued at $900, and sold for $515.
Didn’t get a chance to browse the auction? There’s still time—a limited number of silent auction items are available online at their starting bid prices. Don’t miss these final deals:👉https://e.givesmart.com/events/GMU/i/_Instant/
