Vista Grad Honored with Prestigious Student Employee of the Year Award
Vista Autism Services proudly celebrates Matthew Klein, a graduate of The Vista School and a current participant in Vista Adult Services, for being named Student Employee of the Year by the Lebanon County Work With US coalition. This award, presented at the annual banquet on October 19, recognizes individuals who have overcome significant challenges to achieve success in the workplace.
Matthew began his employment journey while still a student at The Vista School, working at Haller Enterprises in Lititz. His responsibilities include scanning forms, printing invoices, and managing inventory in the warehouse. Employers and colleagues alike commend his exceptional work ethic, consistency, and ability to manage challenges effectively.
“Matthew is very consistent,” said the warehouse materials manager at Haller Enterprises. “He knows what he’s supposed to be doing and has a great memory. When he gets frustrated, he takes a break, recomposes himself, and returns to finish the task. He manages that well.”
Matthew’s success reflects the mission of Vista Autism Services, which empowers individuals with autism to achieve meaningful employment. Vista’s Adult Employment Services program plays a vital role in this process by matching individuals’ talents and interests with the needs of local employers. Career developers provide ongoing support to ensure successful transitions into the workplace.
Established in 2014, Vista Adult Services meets the growing needs of adults with autism by offering training, employment support, and residential services. Together, The Vista School and Vista Adult Services currently support 17 working students and adults with autism, all earning at least minimum wage.
The Work With US coalition, which presented the award, is dedicated to ensuring that all Lebanon County residents have access to safe, inclusive, and bias-free work environments. Matthew’s recognition as Student Employee of the Year highlights the importance of creating opportunities for individuals with autism to thrive in the workforce.
Founded in 2002, The Vista School is one of the nation’s leading schools for children with moderate to severe autism. Serving approximately 100 students from 35 school districts in eight counties, Vista provides comprehensive educational and therapeutic services tailored to each student’s needs. Additionally, Vista Outreach Services supports another 130 students in their home school districts.
Through innovative programs and unwavering commitment, Vista Autism Services continues to empower individuals with autism to achieve their unique potential, both in the classroom and in the community.
