The Vista School celebrated the accomplishments of six graduates on Wednesday, June 21, in a commencement ceremony including present and former staff members, district representatives, family and friends. Meet the graduates!
Name: JJ Successes as a student: Obtaining paid employment at Fitness 4 Focus, volunteer activities, Work Based Learning opportunity at a local beverage distributor where he breaks down cardboard for the business Favorite free time activities: Looking at pictures, drawing with pens and crayons, watching videos on the iPad, fist bumps and high fives from staff Attributes: JJ loves to be “silly” and thrives when he can see he’s making others laugh. He has a contagious smile and easy-going personality. He loves to interact with staff and peers and is sure to brighten anyone’s day!
Name: Douglas Successes as a student: Volunteering at various community locations, completing fantastic work during his Work Based Learning where he happily breaks down and recycles cardboard across campus, learning to shower and brush his teeth Favorite free time activities: Proudly participates in Special Olympics, visiting McDonalds (French fries and a sweet tea!), walks in the quad, listening to music, playing with playdough and using file folders Attributes: Doug is very social, enjoys greeting others, always shares his spirit with Vista campus and is willing to help out others. Doug reminds everyone to appreciate the little things; it could be dark and cold outside and he will smile and throw his hands up to the sky like he’s soaking in the sun on the most beautiful day! He has an energetic, playful personality and is always enthusiastic to take off on an adventure. And if you know Doug, you know he can make a great duck sound!
Name: Tori Successes as a student: Tori has held numerous paid employment positions, is fantastic at working independently, and thrives in following her daily schedule. Favorite free time activities: Watching music videos and SpongeBob, playing with slime, doing puzzles on the iPad Attributes: Tori is always willing to help out her peers by holding open a door, sharing a snack or playing a board game with peers. She enjoys learning staff names and greeting familiar staff. At the end of each day, she ensures she says goodbye to every staff member in her classroom! Tori is curious, eager to learn, and perseveres through tasks when they challenge her. She has been working as the “face of SWAP” (our school store), always greeting her customers with an immediate “hi” and asks how they are doing. She anticipates the needs of those around her, and her kindness and helpfulness is so appreciated.
Name: Ethan Successes as a student: During his senior year, Ethan held not one, but two jobs! He also completed multiple volunteer activities in the community, as well as additional work-based learning experiences. Free time activities: Ethan enjoys researching topics of interest on the computer and talking with staff about preferred subjects. Ask him about Star Wars or Power Rangers! Attributes: Ethan is a role model to peers with great leadership qualities. He also has a great sense of humor that keeps our classroom smiling.
Name: Isaac Successes as a student: Does a great job at Work Based Learning, counting objects with staff, and sorting items Favorite free time activities: watching marching bands and ASMR videos, bouncing a ball Attributes: Isaac has a fantastic and silly sense of humor. He can charm anyone with his fun and innocently mischievous personality. He’s patient and always willing to try something new. His smile can light up a room and always makes staff smile with a “yeehaw”!
Name: Yahya Successes as a student: Picking up trash at Hershey Gardens as part of his Work Based Learning, developed fantastic sorting-by-color skills, working in a peer group Favorite free time activities: Listening to music on the iPad, playing with musical and water toys, giving high fives, taking walks around the quad and in the park Attributes: Yahya is laid back, patient, and fun to spend time with. He will enthusiastically offer high-fives to anyone in need of one and has come so far with communicating his needs. His smile and shoulder-shimmy dance move can make anyone’s day!
