In April 2018, Vista Autism Services proudly announced that Michael G. Jarman, founder and outgoing Chief Strategic Officer, would receive the first-ever Founders Award for his extraordinary dedication to individuals with autism and their families. The award was presented during Night Under the Stars, Vista’s gala event held on April 14 at the Milton & Catherine Hershey Conservatory at Hershey Gardens, in celebration of Autism Acceptance Month.
Jarman, who will officially retire from Vista in June 2018, has been the driving force behind the organization’s growth into a $20 million, multi-entity nonprofit dedicated to serving individuals with autism and their families. As the first of Vista’s founders, Jarman spearheaded efforts to create The Vista School, The Vista Foundation, and Vista Adult Services. His leadership not only established these entities but also inspired a community-wide commitment to autism services in Central Pennsylvania.
Previously serving as President of Vista’s Board of Directors, Jarman transitioned into the role of Chief Strategic Officer and General Counsel. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in redesigning Vista’s management structure to ensure long-term growth and sustainability.
Jarman’s professional background includes 30 years as a corporate, transactional, and tax attorney at McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC. His expertise in employee benefits and healthcare law has been instrumental in shaping Vista’s operational and organizational success. As a parent of four children, including twins with autism, Jarman’s personal experience has fueled his unwavering dedication to improving the lives of families affected by autism.
The Founders Award honors the vision and tireless efforts of the parents and professionals who established Vista’s comprehensive autism services. The founding team—James N. Bouder, David R. Fine, Deirdre B. Jarman, Michael G. Jarman, Donna M. LeFevre, Thomas W. McCormick, Michael J. Murray, and Andrew J. Ward—transformed the landscape of autism treatment in Central Pennsylvania, providing hope and support to hundreds of families.
Jarman’s recognition as the inaugural recipient of the Founders Award underscores his enduring impact on the organization and the autism community. His vision and leadership have created a legacy that will continue to benefit individuals with autism and their families for generations to come.
